He lived for several years and went to college in the US. He was my mother's foster son so that makes us foster brothers. An named his first daughter Florence after my mother. As time goes on, he will tell more about his background, how he came to the US, his present life in Singapore and will compare societies both east and west which he is in a unique position to do having lived both in the US and in Asia. It's really funny to watch the Chinese government blowing their own horn every day on TV, about how effective and heroic they are in handling the earthquake crisis. They even made their own movies and TV shows to emphasize how great they are...

Yangzhou is a city that impressed me the most. It has good infrastructure, clean air, and the people are nice and friendly. So far, it's the first city in China in which I see many happy faces all around. I also found out that the last communist premier is a native there.
Most of Chinese cuisines are quite good but a bit too oily and loaded with MSG.
Some of the topics An will be writing about are a comparison of the health care systems in the US and Asia, comparison of political and economic systems and societies in general and topics of cultural interest in both east and west. I'm looking forward to An's insight and wisdom, as well as the fact that he will be bringing a global perspective to this blog.
Welcome, An!
